Eurowings hand luggage allowance
The deepest free under-seat bag in Europe: 40 × 30 × 25 cm on every single fare.
Eurowings is the Lufthansa Group's low-cost arm, flying UK travellers to Düsseldorf, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Salzburg and Palma. Its free under-seat allowance is 40 × 30 × 25 cm — the same footprint as Ryanair and Wizz Air but 5 cm deeper, so a bag built for Ryanair always fits Eurowings, and a Eurowings-packed bag might not fit Ryanair. The 55 × 40 × 23 cm, 8 kg cabin bag is included on SMART and BIZclass fares and is a paid add-on on BASIC.
The rules
- Every fare — BASIC, SMART and BIZclass — includes 1 small under-seat bag of 40 × 30 × 25 cm (handles and wheels included).
- Eurowings publishes no weight limit for the small bag; the 8 kg limit applies to the large cabin bag.
- The large cabin bag is 55 × 40 × 23 cm, up to 8 kg: included on SMART (1 bag) and BIZclass (2 bags), and bookable on BASIC from about £16–£18 per leg.
- Infants aged 0–23 months travelling on a lap get a second small under-seat bag.
- Hand baggage that is too big or too heavy is taken at the gate and charged as hold baggage — €60 / £51, card payment only.
- If the cabin is full, a compliant 8 kg cabin bag may be put in the hold free of charge and collected on the belt at your destination.
- Folding garment bags get their own allowance of up to 57 × 54 × 15 cm.

FAQ
What is the Eurowings cabin bag size in 2026?+
The free under-seat bag is 40 × 30 × 25 cm including handles and wheels, and it is included in every fare. The larger cabin bag for the overhead locker is 55 × 40 × 23 cm and may weigh up to 8 kg.
Is a cabin bag included in the Eurowings BASIC fare?+
No. BASIC only includes the 40 × 30 × 25 cm under-seat bag. A 55 × 40 × 23 cm cabin bag can be added from around £16–£18 per leg when booking or later in the app — always cheaper than paying at the gate.
Is there a weight limit on the Eurowings under-seat bag?+
Eurowings publishes no weight limit for the small under-seat bag, only the size. The 8 kg limit applies to the large cabin bag, and it is enforced at the gate.
Will a Ryanair-sized bag fit Eurowings?+
Yes. Ryanair's 40 × 30 × 20 cm allowance is 5 cm shallower than Eurowings' 40 × 30 × 25 cm, so any bag that passes the Ryanair sizer also passes on Eurowings — with room to spare.
What does Eurowings charge at the gate?+
Oversize or overweight hand baggage, or an extra bag your fare does not include, is taken at the gate and travels in the hold — €60 / £51. Payment is by card only.
Which bags do you recommend for Eurowings?+
Any bag we list as Eurowings-compatible measures 40 × 30 × 25 cm or smaller, so it fits under the seat on every fare. We check each bag's external dimensions — including wheels and handles — against the published allowance rather than trusting the maker's internal measurements.
